To remain competitive in the age of AI, the EU must secure better access to key resources such as data, computing power, connectivity, energy, capital and skilled labour. As these inputs are not always available within the EU, international trade plays a key role.

"Some of the resources the EU needs most for the age of AI are becoming harder to trade due to new rules and geopolitical tensions. While the EU’s approach to digital trade has evolved in recent years, further development is needed to promote competitiveness in this new environment,” says Hannes Berggren in a new policy brief.

The brief outlines recommendations for the EU’s trade policy, ensuring it stays ahead in the rapidly evolving digital economy.
